During 2015-16, it cost £4.1 million to run all our hospice services, including clinical, fundraising and support services. We receive limited NHS funding, so we need to fundraise most of this. That’s where you come in.
From sorting stock and window dressing, to serving shoppers and providing excellent customer service – volunteering just a few hours a week at a St Clare shop can make a huge difference to your local community. Our shops raised almost £400,000 last year, and we rely on volunteers to make sure every penny spent in our shops makes the biggest difference possible.
What volunteering in a charity shop can do for you
As one of our dedicated charity shop volunteers, you will be the face of our charity, helping raise money and awareness for St Clare so we can continue being there for local families who need us.
In return you will gain invaluable skills and experience that will look great on your CV, such as:
- Team work
- Customer service
- Data entry
- Interpersonal skills
- Time management
- Cash handling
- Shop Presentation
- Organisation and planning skills
- Working under pressure
- General Retail skills
As one of our Duke of Edinburgh volunteers put it:
“Volunteering at the shop has really helped improve my communication skills, as I talk to staff and customers a lot. I can also use both my volunteering experiences to develop my Oxbridge university applications.
I thoroughly enjoy volunteering at the shop because there is always a job which needs doing, and it pleases me to know that the work I am doing is for a good cause.” – Vlad
