SUMMARY:Trek across the Great Wall of China in aid of St Clare Hospice: October 2024
DESCRIPTION:Tick the Great Wall of China off your ‘bucket list’ and complete a charity trek for St Clare this October!\nAn overview of the Great Wall of China trek\nTake on a majestic trekking adventure (12th – 20th October 2024) and conquer the twists\, turns\, steps and slopes of this formidable and iconic Wonder of the World – the renowned Great Wall. Stretching for 21\,196 km\, it zig zags its way across China\, snaking across mountains and through valleys. \nThe Great Wall of China Trek for charity is a fantastic 9 day hike\, covering approximately 35km\, along this awesome man made structure. One of the best in charity treks\, this once in a lifetime challenge takes you over watchtowers and mountains\, through historic battlement stations to witness magnificient panoramas of luscious\, rolling green hills as far as the eye can see! \nThe trekking on this charity challenge is hard\, due to the amount of steps you’ll trek up and down each day – it can sometimes take an hour just to trek 1km on this glorious structure! Another highlight of this challenge is to conquer the 1\,000 steps up to the wall at Mutianyu – culminating with the ascent of the ‘Heavenly Ladder’. \nFollowing this crème de la crème of charity events\, we’ll have some free time to explore Beijing’s famous sites\, such as the Forbidden City\, Tiananmen Square and the beautiful Temple of Heaven before celebrating our achievement at dinner. \nAn ancient wonder\, an amazing accomplishment…join St Clare Hospice on this charity challenge to remember! \nI’m ready to register for the Great Wall of China trek \n\nCosts and fundraising\n\nPayment Option A – Minimum Sponsorship*\n\nYou pay the non-refundable registration fee (£299) to Global Adventure Challenges. This is used to run your challenge\, and to secure relevant permits. You then will commit to raising the minimum sponsorship of £3\,290* for St Clare Hospice. \nThe challenge costs will be paid for you by St Clare out of the sponsorship raised. Do try and raise as much as you can\, as every penny you raise over the minimum sponsorship will be donated to St Clare. \nYou can raise your sponsorship by setting up a JustGiving page. If you’d like to support with this\, our friendly Fundraising team will be more than happy to help. You can get in contact with our Fundraising team by emailing fund@stclarehospice.org.uk or calling 01279 773750. \n*Please note: St Clare Hospice will need to have received 80% of the minimum sponsorship no later than 12 weeks before departure. DESCRIPTION:This is a collaborative\, in-person education workshop\, organised by St Clare Hospice and Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust\, giving attendees an opportunity to learn from experts in the field of palliative care and increase their confidence\, skills and knowledge in relation to caring for patients who are actively dying.  \nCare of the dying patient generally refers to care in the last days or hours of life. The goals of care during the last hours and days of life are to ensure comfort and dignity. Quite often\, when healthcare providers may not have expertise in palliative care\, identifying when patients are at this stage of life can be challenging. The picturesque 13.1-mile route passes through four of London’s magnificent Royal Parks. \nThe half marathon also gives runners the chance to take in awesome views of the capital city and many of London’s historic landmarks including Buckingham Palace\, the London Eye\, Houses of Parliament\, and the Royal Albert Hall. \nLike all of the runners who want to see the best of London’s city and parks\, the event goes beyond just running 13.1 miles. \nThe organisers design the day so that spectators have as much fun as the runners themselves! Not to mention a beautiful pond and greenhouse. \nTheir terraced front garden has a side entrance and a patio with seating. \nRefreshments will be available and plants will be on sale. \nAdmission to Ann and Peter’s garden is a donation of your choice on the door. SUMMARY:Managing Grief Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about supporting colleagues facing bereavement in the workplace from specialists\nOn Monday 19th June\, St Clare Hospice are inviting your business to come along to the Managing Grief workshop designed to help employers and line managers\, manage the difficult situation of an employee bereavement. Both in the immediate aftermath of bereavement and in the longer-term. \nThe workshop will provide awareness on how to support different kinds of bereavement including loss of a loved one\, a child\, or a colleague. \nThe cost for the workshop is normally £75 per person and will be delivered face-to-face for up to 20 people. However\, until May 31st\, we are offering a 20% discount so you can book for £60! \nSo if you would like to create an empathetic culture for bereaved employees\, book your place today. \nBook your place now\n \n \n\nThe workshop will be delivered by Sally Muylders. Sally is an experienced youth worker and community development worker who has been working in local government and charities across East London and Essex for the last 25 years\, including St Clare Hospice where she led on Community Engagement and Involvement for 4 years. \nFinding community and helping create them is Sally’s passion and what she does best. Sally has been really lucky to have an exceptionally varied and diverse career that has been filled with opportunities to work with  inspirational people in many different fields. \nThese opportunities have provided learning and inspiration from others and led to her becoming a skilled workshop leader and exceptional facilitator. Sally will bring this and her 7 years direct experience working in hospices\, around the theme of bereavement and end-of-life to ensure that you get the most out of your session. \nOutside of work\, Sally loves being with her family and cats. DESCRIPTION:Explore a number of gardens in Theydon Bois this June\, in aid of St Clare\nAfter a seven-year break\, Theydon Bois Open Gardens are pleased to invite you to visit some of the gardens of Theydon Bois. \nTheydon Bois’ Open Gardens event will be smaller than years previous\, but nevertheless still enjoyable. \nOn Sunday 18th June\, call at Theydon Bois Village Hall to buy your tickets and collect a map and list of the gardens. \nTea and cakes will be available in St. Mary’s Church Hall which can be found next to the Village Hall. \nAdmission is £5.00 per adult (inclusion of all gardens)\, with accompanied children entering free of charge. Cash and card payment options available. No dogs allowed. \nBooking is not required. All proceeds from ticket sales and donations will go to St Clare Hospice. \nParking: You can walk or drive to the gardens are parking is available throughout the village\, however there will be limited parking at the Village Hall.
