Remember a loved one with Light up a Life this winter
Light up a Life is a special way to remember and celebrate the life of someone special this festive season; whilst supporting St Clare Hospice to continue caring for local people and families facing life-limiting illness, or experiencing bereavement and loss.
A Light up a Life service features festive carols and readings for you to enjoy; in the company of those who understand how it feels to miss someone special at Christmas-time. Candles are lit at each service, every shining light representing the life and memories of a loved one.
Come to a service at St Clare Hospice
This year, we will be offering three Light up a Life services here at the Hospice. Please note – we only have availability left for our Saturday 18th December service at 7pm.
Plus, new to 2021, families with young children (under 18’s) are invited to come along an hour before each service starts to attend arts and crafts activities with our Child Bereavement Team. Children will be able to create something meaningful for their loved ones in a fun and relaxed way.
Please note, our Hospice-based services are outside, and are ticketed on a first-come, first-served basis. You can book your place using the form below.
Attend a service in your local community
There are an additional four Light up a Life services taking place in Loughton, Ongar, Waltham Abbey and Chigwell, which you can simply turn up on the night to.
Dedicate a Star
This year, we’re inviting you to dedicate a Light up a Life Star to someone special who will be missed dearly at Christmas-time – in memory and celebration of their life.
Receive a Star in the post to send back to us
You can request to have a Star(s) sent out to you via post. When your Star arrives, we invite you to write a special message dedicated to your loved one, and post it back to us. Your Star will be displayed here at the Hospice during our heartfelt Light up a Life memorial services this December.
In order for your Star to be included in our display, please send it back by Tuesday 14th December.
Dedicate a Light up a Life star online
You can also dedicate a Light up a Life Star online, and write a special message of remembrance to a loved one, by using our Light up a Life dedication page.
By dedicating a Star to your loved one today, you’ll be helping to raise vital funds that will go towards supporting families like Tommy’s…
“St Clare looked after me and my family,” says Tommy, who is eight years old. We cared for Tommy’s dad, after a diagnosis of cancer in 2019. “Daddy stayed at St Clare for two weeks, and I would go to see him most days after school. The nurses looked after Daddy, and me and Mummy too.”
Tommy’s mum says that he and his dad were like “two peas in a pod”; they did everything together. “Daddy worked with Grandad selling cars and taught me about cars too,” says Tommy. “We always talked about cars, played with my toy cars and built Lego. When I’m older, I want to work with cars, just like Daddy.”
Although Tommy only got to spend seven years with his dad, Tommy wanted us to know that he will always be his best friend, and hero. This year, on Tommy’s second Christmas without his Dad, he told us, “I will miss him so much”.
Tommy knows that there will be other people at Christmas who also miss their Daddies; as well as other family members or friends who are so missed. That’s why Tommy wanted to tell people about Light up a Life services, “so we can all be together,” he says; and so that other families who need St Clare’s specialist care and support can access it if, and when, they need us – with thanks to your kind donations.
We’d like to say a BIG thank you to Tommy, for wanting to tell others about Light up a Life this year.
