Ashbrook Court jumped into fundraising for their local Hospice!
A team of six staff and supporters of a local care home in Epping Forest took on an exhilarating skydive challenge on Saturday 22nd June at UK Parachuting in Peterborough, raising thousands of pounds in aid of St Clare Hospice.
Based in Waltham Abbey, the team at Ashbrook Court Care Home faced the adrenaline-fuelled jump as part of their year-round fundraising activities for St Clare after choosing the Hospice as their ‘charity of the year’.
The daring team of six skydivers included both care staff at the facility and a residents’ family member, as well as a supporting member of the community:
- Amy Logie – Care staff
- Christina Marlin – Care staff
- Shelly Torrance – Domestic staff
- Janyce Hand – Wellbeing Lifestyle Lead
- Saneeta Rathore-Hand – From the community
- Nadine Montalto – Resident’s family
The team at Ashbrook Court Care Home raised approximately £2,000 in sponsorship as a result of the challenge, all of which will be donated to St Clare Hospice. That’s enough to fund the annual redecoration of all eight bedrooms on St Clare’s Inpatient Unit, ensuring the rooms are kept light, fresh and welcoming for all Hospice visitors.
“We wanted to take on a skydive challenge in aid of St Clare as we believe it’s a great way to raise vital funding, and also a great way of teambuilding together!” says Janyce Hand, who lead the skydiving team ahead of the ‘big jump’ on Saturday 22nd June.
“The Hospice is a charity that’s very close to our hearts, as many of our residents have received their care and always said what an amazing place it was. We were all very nervous about the skydive – but at the same time, excited! In the end, it was such a great experience to take part in and we are so pleased to have raised money for a worthy, local cause.”
Challenges and Events Fundraiser at St Clare Hospice, Emma Broadbent, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that our friends over at Ashbrook Court took on a skydiving challenge for us! They’ve been so supportive as part of their year of fundraising for us. It’s with thanks to local people and organisations like Ashbrook that we’re able to do what we do here at the Hospice – so we’d like to say a HUGE thank you to the team, and we hope you enjoyed the experience!”
