Tracy and Jamie from St Clare are running the Royal Parks Half Marathon for the hospice they love!

Two members of staff at St Clare Hospice have signed up to run the Royal Parks Half marathon on Sunday 14th October 2018 in aid of their very own charity.

Jamie Hooper, Fundraising Development Manager, and Tracy Cunningham, Community Palliative Care team Manager, will be taking part in their first ever half marathon in aid of St Clare, aiming to raise a combined total of £1,000 in sponsorship. If successful in their fundraising efforts, the pair will raise enough money to run our 24-hour advice line for almost two weeks – a care service that provides immediate, vital support and advice over the telephone, all around the clock.

Jamie Hooper (41 years old from Bishop’s Stortford), joined St Clare in January 2016, and has since supported our Fundraising team to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds during that time, whilst also raising awareness of St Clare to people within West Essex and East Herts.

Tracy Cunningham (52 years old), joined in May 2017, and has since supported our Community Palliative Care team and Hospice at Home team in delivering care and support to over 1,000 people living in West Essex, in their own homes.

The two members of hospice staff join Team St Clare to participate in the autumnal half-marathon as their way of going the extra mile to support the charity that they love.

Tracy said:

“Within my role at St Clare Hospice, I see first-hand the difference that our care makes to people, their families and carers, each and every day. Our clinical teams work 24/7, 365 days of the year, dedicating their lives to supporting and caring for local people who are facing one of life’s most difficult journeys. Many a time in my career have I seen lives changed by excellent palliative care and specialist palliative care, working in partnership – care that instils hope, peace and happiness for so many. Yet, I know that none of this can happen without the vital funding that is generated by our Fundraising team, and donated by our generous supporters. That’s why I’ve been inspired to take on this challenge; to raise as much in vital funding as I possibly can for St Clare!”

Jamie said:

“I think it is really inspirational that Tracy and I are teaming together to raise money for our hospice – representing the vital teamwork and value of every role here at St Clare, as we work together to provide our hospice care to local people who need us. As a fundraiser myself, I know just how vital the donations we get from our supporters really are. But it is still hard work raising millions in vital funding every year! So, I decided that I should lead by example and put my best foot forward in raising money for the Hospice which I know is doing incredible work in our local community.”

Tracy and Jamie will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 14th October along with eight other St Clare supporters, who aim to raise a combined total of £5,000 for the Hospice. The picturesque 13.1-mile route winds through four of London’s eight Royal Parks and passes some of London’s most iconic landmarks on closed roads, including Buckingham Palace.
