St Clare Hospice’s Light up a Life service is a chance to come together with others who understand what it’s like to grieve the loss of someone special.
Each service is a wonderful inclusive occasion with:

- Candles lit, with every shining light representing the life and memories of a loved one.
- Music, readings and refreshments.
St Clare Hospice’s Light up a Life services offer local people the chance to come together to celebrate those they love and miss in the winter months when grief may feel particularly heavy. People can attend a St Clare Light up a Life at the hospice in Hastingwood but also at a community Light up a Life service in churches and venues across West Essex and the borders of East Hertfordshire.

How your support makes a difference for families we care for
When Dawn’s bowel cancer spread to her spine and pelvis, St Clare Hospice stepped in, giving daughters Fern and Bonnie the chance to simply be daughters again, not carers.
‘Before Mum was at the hospice, my sister and I hadn’t slept for two weeks while we looked after her by ourselves at home. From the moment Mum arrived at St Clare, the weight was taken off our shoulders. Finally, we got the chance to just be her daughters again, instead of her carers,’ Fern, Dawn’s daughter shared.
‘It’s been over a year since Mum died and I don’t ever want to stop speaking about her, even the tough bits. Although Mum is no longer here, she’s still everywhere – in the people who loved her, the stories we tell, the memories we made and all the little things that remind us of our Mum.
‘At this time of year, it feels even more important to feel close to Mum. That’s why I’m dedicating a star to her with St Clare Hospice’s Light up a Life. It feels especially poignant to know my dedication and donation will help another family experience the love and care Mum, Bonnie and I received from the hospice too.’
