Donate in memory

We find that many people choose to honour the memory of someone special by raising funds for St Clare Hospice in their name. By doing so, you will be enabling others to benefit from our care and support in the future.

Making a donation in honour of someone special

Lots of people choose to support St Clare Hospice in memory of someone they love, or in recognition of the care and support a relative or friend received from us. Donating in memory of someone special is a wonderful way to celebrate and commemorate their lives, whilst ensuring that our care can continue to be offered to others who need us.

You might decide to collect donations at your loved one’s funeral or memorial service, make a single donation to St Clare on behalf of you or your family, or create a personalised dedicated leaf on our Memory Tree. Whichever you decide, every donation we receive goes towards the provision of our health and social care services for local people who need support during the experience of facing a life-limiting illness, the end of life and bereavement.

How to donate

During the coronavirus pandemic, our Fundraising Team is still able to accept and acknowledge all donations made in memory of a loved one, and we thank you for thinking of St Clare at this difficult time.

Donating on-line is the quickest and most convenient way of making a donation and this can be done by clicking here

You can call 01279 773750 Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm and our friendly Fundraising Team can take a donation over the phone

Cheques made payable to St Clare Hospice West Essex Trust can be posted to:

St Clare Hospice
Hastingwood Road
Hastingwood CM17 9JX

Please include your details and the name of the person you are donating in memory of so we can keep a record of how much is raised.

Funeral collections

Due to the latest restrictions, we realise that it’s not always possible for cash donations to be collected at funerals.
You can ask friends or family to donate directly to St Clare Hospice via our website or by phone or post as detailed above. We can then send you a total of how much is raised in memory of your loved one.

Your funeral director may also be able to help you with collecting donations so it’s worth chatting through options with them.

Alternatively, there are many memorial pages such as Just Giving and Virgin Money Giving which allow you to raise money for St Clare Hospice, and for people to leave messages and dedications to your loved one. Please make sure you choose St Clare Hospice as your chosen charity when setting up your page.

Create a leaf on our Memory Tree

Dedicating a leaf on our Memory Tree is a heartfelt way to create a lasting memory for you and your family, in honour of that special someone. The St Clare Hospice Memory Tree is situated in the heart of our main Hospice building, and is comprised of hundreds of personalised bronze, silver and gold leaves. Each leaf bears a personal message or the name of someone special, representing and celebrating the lives of those who are no longer with us.

Our three types of leaves (bronze, silver and gold) are available for a suggested donation to our hospice charity. Each leaf stays on the Tree for a year, after which you can either renew your leaf or take it home as a cherished keepsake.

£85 could pay for five hours of counselling support for a bereaved family.

£256 could pay for eight home visits from one of our clinical nurse specialists.

£592 could pay for 24 hours of care for a patient in our Inpatient Unit.
