Can you knit or crochet for a good cause?
How ‘Knit a Chick’ works
Pick up your needles or crochet hook and create as many adorable chicks as you can! Whether you go for bright and quirky designs or keep it classic, every chick helps make a difference. If you’re new to knitting, don’t worry we have a simple, step-by-step pattern to guide you.
You can also get creative by adding tiny hats, scarves, or fun accessories to give your chicks personality. But if you prefer a simple, traditional design, that’s perfect too!

Feel proud you are making a difference
Without your support, we could not carry on caring for local people who need us as they
face one of life’s most difficult journeys.
So whether you knit one chick or 100 chicks, your crafty contribution will help us continue to care for local families now and into the future.
On behalf of everyone at St Clare, thank you very much.
Frequently asked questions: Knit a Chick
What is the Easter Knit a Chick Appeal?
The Easter Knit a Chick Appeal is a fundraising initiative where handmade knitted chicks, each containing a Cadbury Creme Egg, are sold to support St Clare Hospice.
How can I take part?
You can get involved by knitting or crocheting chicks, donating chocolate eggs, or assisting with collection and distribution. Helping to stuff the chicks or contributing to the cost of the eggs is also greatly appreciated.
Do I need to provide Creme Eggs with my chicks?
No, you can send your knitted chicks without eggs. However, if you’re able to donate Creme Eggs or contribute toward their cost, we would greatly appreciate it.
I don’t knit or crochet. Is there another way I can help?
If knitting isn’t your thing but you’d still like to help, we’d greatly appreciate donations of small chocolate eggs (Creme Egg size) to pop inside the chicks! You can donate eggs at the hospice reception or send them directly to us via our Amazon Wishlist.
Where can I buy a knitted chick?
Our handmade chicks will be looking for new homes throughout March and April and can be purchased at our hospice reception. Prices start from £2 and each chick comes with a chocolate egg.
