This interactive training blends reflective exercises, communication practice and real world scenarios to help practitioners understand grief, recognise emotional impact and provide compassionate support while maintaining professional boundaries.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognise the emotional impact of bereavement on individuals in health and care settings, including residents, families and staff.
  2. Understand core principles of grief and loss, including common emotional and behavioural responses.
  3. Use effective listening and communication skills, such as empathy, silence and reflective responses to support someone who is grieving.
  4. Identify appropriate professional boundaries and understand when and how to refer individuals to specialist bereavement services.
  5. Examine challenges and barriers to providing bereavement support within care settings and explore practical ways to overcome them.
  6. Reflect on personal beliefs and responses to death, dying and grief and understand how these shape professional practice and emotional resilience.
