Honour the memory of your loved ones at St Clare Hospice’s Forever Flowers Picnic this June

When someone you love dies, the roots of your grief remain entwined in every aspect of your life – in every memory and every new experience. The initial shock and sharpness of your loss may wither over time, but remembering and celebrating your loved one’s life and the happy times you shared is an important part of healing as our lives grow around the hole they have left behind.

So, this summer, St Clare are inviting you, your family and friends to remember those who hold a special place in your heart with us at the Forever Flowers Picnic on Sunday 30th June 2024.

What are St Clare Hospice’s Forever Flowers?

A Forever Flower is a promise to always remember acting as a long-lasting comforting tribute to honour the memory of your loved one. Our bespoke handcrafted ironwork forget-me-not flowers can be displayed wherever you would like to celebrate your loved one – in your home, your garden, by your loved ones grave or anywhere that is meaningful to you.

So you can create a safe space to reflect on your loved ones life, their achievements, and the impact they had on the world and on those around them, along with having a beautiful keepsake to commemorate their memory.

What is the Forever Flowers Picnic?

Pack a picnic and join us for a wonderful, inclusive event where you, your family and friends can come together to dine in our field of Forever Flowers. The picnic provides the opportunity to join with others who understand what it’s like to grieve the loss of someone you love.

On the day, you’ll be able to enjoy an afternoon of reflection and celebration with:

  • Music
  • Refreshments
  • A selection of stalls
  • Children’s arts and crafts

& more!

Anyone can dedicate a forget-me-not Forever Flower and come along to our Forever Flowers event, whether you or your loved ones have a connection to St Clare Hospice or not. And no matter how long ago your loss was.

How to prepare for the Forever Flowers Picnic

Step 1 – Make your Forever Flower dedication in memory of someone special

You can dedicate a Forever Flower to someone you never want to forget, for a suggested donation of £28 (per flower). Anyone can dedicate a forget-me-not flower, whether you or your loved ones have a connection to St Clare Hospice or not. And no matter how long ago your loss was.

Please note, our Forever Flowers will be allocated on a first come, first served basis so please make your dedication promptly to avoid disappointment. Refunds can be issued where applicable.

Step 2 – Collect your forget-me-not at the Forever Flowers Picnic

Once you’ve made your dedication, you are welcome to collect your Forever Flower in person at our summer remembrance picnic here at St Clare Hospice on Sunday 30th June 2024.

Step 3 – Get picnic ready and join us

Once you’re all registered to attend, it’s time to get your picnic basket and blanket at the ready to join us in June. This is a great opportunity for you to gather all your friends and families’ favourite refreshments, including the beloved food and beverages of the loved one(s) you’ll be celebrating at the remembrance picnic.

Please note: Alcohol is not permitted at this event.

Have a question about Forever Flowers? Read our Frequently Asked Questions below.

What is a Forever Flower? A Forever Flower is a bespoke handcrafted blue ironwork forget-me-not flower that you can dedicate as a tribute to a loved one whose memory you wish to honour. Forever Flowers can be placed wherever you wish, whether it be in a memory garden you have for your loved one at home or by their graveside.

Why should I dedicate a Forever Flower? Forever Flowers are not only a wonderful way for a bereaved person to celebrate their own loved one but they are also a thoughtful gift for a bereaved friend or family member. Dedicating a Forever Flower in memory of a friend or family member’s loved one is a touching way for you to acknowledge their loved one’s legacy, whilst also supporting St Clare Hospice.

In addition to this, every dedication made through our Forever Flowers appeal this summer will help the Hospice continue its caring work. The suggested donation (£28) you make, in exchange for your Forever Flower, will contribute to St Clare Hospice care to ensure that our specialist, dedicated team can continue caring for people who are approaching the end of their life, as well as providing comfort and support for their relatives and friends.

When will I receive my Forever Flower? If you’re not going to collect your Forever Flower in person from the hospice, we will aim to dispatch your forget-me-not keepsake to you as soon as possible after our remembrance picnic on Sunday 30th June 2024. Please allow 2-3 weeks after this date for your Forever Flower to arrive in the post.

How will I receive my Forever Flower? There are three options on how you can receive your Forever Flower. Please indicate your preference on the form when making your dedication.

  • Forever Flowers Picnic – You are welcome to collect your Forever Flower from our Forever Flowers Picnic on Sunday 30th June 2024.

What is the Forever Flowers Picnic? Forever Flowers is a charity remembrance picnic that takes place at St Clare Hospice. The event allows bereaved families to come together and celebrate the memory of their loved one(s) at a summer picnic held at the Hastingwood-based hospice.

Do I have to attend the picnic to receive my dedicated forget-me-not? No, you do not have to attend the picnic to receive your dedicated Forever Flower. You just have to leave the box blank – on either the online or printed form – that states you’d like to attend the event and request to have your Forever Flower posted to a chosen address instead. Please note, there is an additional charge of £5 for your item to be packaged and posted.

Alternatively, you can arrange to collect your Forever Flower from the hospice on another date.

When does the event take place? The Forever Flowers Picnic will be taking place on Sunday 30th June from 12-3pm at St Clare Hospice in Hastingwood, Essex.

Why should I attend? This remembrance event is the perfect opportunity for you to bring your closest friends and family members together to enjoy a summer picnic as you celebrate the memory of loved ones you dearly miss.

Do I have to bring my own food and drinks? Yes. We will be serving light snacks – including strawberries and cream – at this event but do recommend that you bring your own picnic hamper full of food and drinks to enjoy.

In fact, maybe you can use this as an opportunity to choose snacks and beverages that remind you of your loved one(s), whether it be their favourite finger sandwiches or cans of their beloved carbonated drink. Please note: Alcohol is not permitted at this event.

Who can attend? Everyone is welcome to attend the Forever Flowers Picnic, whether you have experienced St Clare’s care or not, and no matter how long ago your loss was.

Where can I park? We have free parking available onsite, including 8 accessible parking spaces located throughout the Hospice car parks.

Is this event accessible? The Forever Flowers Picnic will be held on the Hospice’s grass field which has uneven terrain.

The hospice has accessible parking spaces located outside of the main hospice building alongside others based outside of the Taylor Centre car park.

The Hospice building is wheelchair accessible with access to assistive and disabled toilets. There is a hearing loop available on site. Currently, the hospice does not have a Changing Places toilet.

If you have accessibility needs that we can support you with, please get in touch with reah.norris1@stclarehospice.org.uk

Can I bring my dog(s) to the picnic? We’d love to have all of your family members and friends join you to celebrate your loved one(s) and this includes the furry four-legged kind! We just ask that dogs are kept on leads and supervised at all times.
