St Clare Hospice's GriefLine (01279 945089) is a free bereavement and grief support callback service for anyone living in West Essex and East Herts who is struggling with grief.

Crisis support

GriefLine provides emotional support and a listening ear. It is not a crisis service and is unable to offer immediate assistance.

GriefLine is available to anyone aged 18 or over living in West Essex or East Hertfordshire who is struggling with grief following the death of someone important to them. You do not need to have had a connection with St Clare Hospice to access the service.

Simply call 01279 945089 and leave a voicemail with your name and contact number. GriefLine operates a 24-hour answerphone service, and one of our trained bereavement volunteers will return your call within 72 hours.

Yes. GriefLine is a free bereavement support service provided by St Clare Hospice. It is free to call, though charges may apply in line with your standard network rate.

You’ll receive a callback from one of our trained bereavement volunteers. They provide a compassionate, confidential and non-judgemental space for you to talk about your grief and how you’re feeling.

No. GriefLine is open to anyone in West Essex or East Hertfordshire who is experiencing grief or bereavement, regardless of whether your loved one received care from St Clare Hospice.

Yes. Grief doesn’t follow a timetable, and there is no right or wrong time to seek support. Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, we’re here to listen.

GriefLine provides emotional support and a listening ear. During your conversation, we may also help you access St Clare Hospice’s wider bereavement services or signpost you to other organisations and resources if they’re better suited to your needs.

No. GriefLine is not an emergency or crisis service and cannot provide immediate support. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. If you need urgent mental health support, please contact your GP, NHS 111, or your local crisis service.

You’re welcome to contact GriefLine whenever you feel you need someone to talk to. If it becomes clear that you’d benefit from more ongoing or specialist support, we’ll discuss other bereavement services available through St Clare Hospice or signpost you to appropriate organisations.
