St Clare Hospice offers free Tier 3 DNACPR training for experienced clinicians working in palliative and end-of-life care. This full-day, face-to-face course is designed to empower Senior Responsible Clinicians with the confidence, clarity and clinical authority to lead sensitive DNACPR conversations, navigate complex decision-making and complete documentation to the highest governance standards.

This full-day face-to-face Tier 3 Advanced DNACPR study day has been developed in partnership with Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) and is designed specifically for experienced healthcare professionals who are ready to take on the role of Senior Responsible Clinician. As DNACPR conversations require clinical confidence, ethical sensitivity and robust governance awareness, this course provides the advanced skills needed to lead these discussions safely and effectively.

Delivered as a full-day, in-person course, the training combines expert-led teaching with practical application, ensuring participants leave confident in both DNACPR decision-making and documentation.
The training is aligned with EPUT and St Clare Hospice clinical governance frameworks, ensuring best practice and patient safety remain central.
Who is this course for?
This Tier 3 advanced training is designed for:
- Experienced healthcare professionals specialising in palliative and end-of-life care
- Clinicians supported by their employer to act as a Senior Responsible Clinician
- Professionals who have completed Advanced Communication Skills Training and are ready to progress to advanced practice
- Those responsible for leading complex DNACPR conversations and completing associated documentation
This is an advanced Tier 3 course and is not intended for clinicians new to DNACPR or advance care planning discussions.
About the course
Duration: 8 hours
Format: Onsite session at St Clare Hospice, Hastingwood
Time: 9am to 5pm (tea, coffee and lunch will be provided. Please let us know of any dietary requirements when booking)
Blending expert insight, reflective practice and practical application, this full-day, face-to-face training equips Senior Responsible Clinicians with the skills, knowledge and confidence to lead high quality DNACPR conversations and complete documentation accurately.
The training builds on knowledge gained in Tier 2 courses and focuses on advanced communication, decision-making and leadership skills required in specialist palliative care settings.

- Demonstrate competence as a Senior Responsible Clinician in leading DNACPR conversations and completing documentation
- Understand and apply clinical governance frameworks aligned with EPUT and St Clare Hospice to ensure safe and effective DNACPR practice
- Identify service users who would benefit from timely Advance Care Planning (ACP) discussions, including DNACPR decision-making
