The Community Space is based on the St Clare Hospice site and offers a range of activities which are open to the public
Our Community Space
The Community Space is based on the St Clare Hospice site. Here our team of volunteers deliver sessions, free of charge, to our local community.
Activities offered include arts and crafts, sewing, and a Men’s Shed wood-working group. You do not need a connection to the Hospice to attend, sessions are open to everyone.
Our Men’s Shed offers a community space for men to connect, converse and create. The activities are similar to those of garden sheds, but for groups of men to enjoy together. They help reduce loneliness and isolation, but most importantly, they’re fun.
Men’s Sheds are all about social connections, building friendships, sharing skills, knowledge, and of course a lot of laughter. Come along and practice skills, enjoy making and mending, and enjoy a hobby.
Our Dementia Friendly Gardening Club supports people to live well with dementia. Connect with the natural world and enjoy the physical, social and therapeutic benefits of gardening and nature-related craft activities.
Led by our trained volunteers, sessions will be held outdoors (weather permitting) or in our Community Space and are run alongside our Dementia Carers’ Café so attendees can potter, plant and grow while their carers take some time apart to relax with a hot drink and meet with others in a similar situation.
Spaces for our Dementia Friendly Gardening Club are limited, so booking is essential. Call our Community Engagement team on 07534 031702 to book.
WHEN: Thursdays between 10am and 12pm, excluding bank holidays.
Dementia Carers’ Café
The Dementia Carers’ Café takes place every week at the Hospice in the Community Space.
Caring for someone with dementia is something you shouldn’t have to manage alone. Connecting with others who are also carers, and supporting one another, can be really helpful.
Dementia Carers’ Café offers you a safe space to meet and connect those who understand. Relax over a cup of tea or coffee and share your experiences, and build connections.
WHEN: Thursdays between 10am and 12pm, excluding bank holidays.
Art Workshops
Local artist Tracey Ingram hosts an art workshop for beginners every third Friday of the month in the Hospice in the Community Space.
Do you enjoy relaxing with a paintbrush in hand? Or have you ever thought, ‘I haven’t got a creative bone in my body’ or ‘I can’t paint’? This workshop is for you! Enjoy step by step guide to sketching, how to choose your colour palette, and guidance to create your own masterpiece.
Booking is essential and places cost £30 per person, which includes all painting materials.
WHEN: Third Friday of the month, excluding bank holidays.
“The Men’s Shed shows you that there is more to life when you are given the diagnosis of a life-limiting or terminal illness. You can forget about all that whilst your there, and enjoy yourself.”
Donating to St Clare Hospice means we can continue providing our compassionate care and support to those facing a life-limiting diagnosis and their loved ones. No matter how large or small, your donation means so much to the local families who need us. Thank you for your support.
