The 17-year-old was watched by his fellow cast mates from Harlow-based Phoenix Theatre School as he was de-fuzzed by beauty therapist Amanda Green when the youngsters took a break from rehearsals of Peter Pan.
Will accepted the challenge as, although he was the ideal choice to play Lost Boys leader Tootles in the amateur musical production, he had excessively hairy legs!
But by agreeing to the leg wax, he was thankfully fuzz free ahead of the show’s opening night at Rhodes Arts Complex in Bishop’s Stortford on Friday.
The show’s costume designer Julia Dale, who works at St Clare, said: “Will’s below average height and wealth of professional performance experience made him the ideal choice for the part. However, he does have excessively hairy legs, which detract from his supposed pre-teen age. So, he bravely accepted our challenge to have a ‘Tootles Wax’ in order to look the part.
“Not wanting to waste such a potentially fun opportunity, we decided to use the event to raise much needed and deserving funds for the fantastic St Clare.”
Three other cast members – Joe Vaiana, Drew Gregg and Daniel Boulton – also each had a strip of leg hair removed to help boost Will’s fundraising. Their sponsorship page is still open at https://www.justgiving.com/Phil-Dale3/
We would also like to thank Amanda, who works at Crystal Clear Holistic Therapies, who kindly donated her time for free to wax Will’s legs after stepping in at the last minute.
