In summer 2026, Harlow & Epping will come alive with a wild burst of colour, creativity and community spirit as the Lions on the Loose art trail takes over our streets and green spaces!
For eight unforgettable weeks in summer 2026, a pride of majestic lion sculptures will roam the streets, parks and open spaces of Harlow and Epping – each one individually decorated by a talented artist and sponsored by a local business or organisation. Together, they’ll form a free, family-friendly art trail celebrating everything that makes our corner of West Essex so special.
The lion, a symbol of strength, courage, and unity, perfectly embodies the values of St Clare Hospice and the spirit of the communities it serves across West Essex and the borders of eastern Hertfordshire. Trail-goers will be invited to explore the trail, discover stunning artworks, and experience their towns from a fresh perspective, bringing pride to their towns.
At the end of the trail, in October 2026, the fabulous lion sculptures will be auctioned at the hospice’s Mane Event to rise vital funds for the local charity. Rosie Knowles, Deputy CEO at St Clare said, “Our care helps patients, their families, and carers, to make the most of every moment together, no matter how long they have left to live. By hosting this trail across Harlow and Epping, we are aiming to raise awareness of the hospice, break down barriers and bust myths about hospice care, and raise much-needed funds to support our charitable work.”
Previous trails have raised over £200,000 for hospices across the UK.
