St Clare Hospice’s popular 10k race is set to return for its 29th year
The popular annual outdoor charity sporting event, which is a regular fixture in local running club calendars, is a vital source of fundraising for the charity. It returns once again, starting and finishing at the Hospice in Hastingwood, on Sunday 2nd April 2023.
The fundraising event for the local charity is open to all abilities. It is ideal for regular running club members looking to boost their training, as well as those who are new to running but looking for a challenge. Wheelchair racers are also welcome and have become an integral part of the event.
The race is UK Athletics affiliated and chip-timed – so it offers the perfect opportunity to get a new PB for the 2023 race season. There are also trophies up for grabs in the following categories: male, female, seniors, juniors and wheelchair athletes and every participant will get a medal.
Last year, this popular event saw over 300 participants raise more than £8,000 for the Hospice – a target which St Clare is hoping to beat this year.
Event Organiser, St Clare Challenges and Events Fundraiser Clare Morris, said: “The atmosphere at this race is always great, and that’s because people know that every kilometre they cover, they are raising money for our nurses, doctors and care teams to put life into days of people living with a terminal illness. Entry is £15 for an affiliated racer and £17 for a non-affiliated racer, and many people go that extra mile and raise sponsorship on top. Just £100 could pay for two patients to receive a 90 minute Hospice at Home visit from our nursing assistants. That care makes such a difference to local people and their families.”
Clare continued: “Perhaps you have been motivated this year to get off the couch and start your running journey – well our event is the perfect chance to put your new found fitness and love of running to the test! The course is perfect for people who are new to jogging, as well as a great route for club runners.”
“It’s easy to see why our race is a popular choice for local runners, with beautiful views enroute. Not only that, but our route along the roads of Hastingwood is UK Athletics affiliated and chip-timed – so it offers the perfect opportunity to get a new PB for the 2023 running season.”
Registration costs £17 (£15 for affiliated runners). The registration desk will be open at 9:00am on the day, with the race starting at 10:30am. The event is open to people aged 15 and above.
The race starts and finishes at St Clare Hospice, Hastingwood Road, Hastingwood, Essex, CM17 9JX.
