Local firm Stortford Tiling raises thousands of pounds for St Clare Hospice at their 4th annual charity golf day
A local firm has presented a cheque for £7,500 to St Clare Hospice on 12th January 2018, following its 4th annual golf day in aid of St Clare.
Stortford Tiling’s charity golf day was held on Friday 23rd June at Manor of Groves Hotel when more than a hundred golf-enthusiasts took to the fairways to raise funds for the hospice.
Stortford Tiling and Marble, a family-run firm based in Great Hallingbury, has been hosting the event since 2014. The firm’s Managing Director, Roy Croft, was moved to host a fundraising event for the charity after his close friend, Roger Wiltshire, was cared for by the Hospice.
Roy Croft said:
“I have always supported St Clare because it’s a local charity, but in 2014 St Clare became even closer to my heart. My good friend Roger stayed at St Clare for a few weeks before he passed away in May 2014 and when I came to visit him I was just taken aback at the incredible care he received. But they didn’t just care for Roger – they were also there for his wife Sheila, which is just so important. St Clare’s was like a home from home for both of them.”
“I’ve always been in awe of hospices but once I had seen firsthand the amazing care they provide, I just wanted to do even more. Roger was a keen golfer and we went on lots of holidays and golfing breaks together with our wives, so hosting a charity golf day in his honour just seemed the right thing to do.”
On 23rd June, golf teams from across the region hit the greens at Manor of Groves for an entertaining day of golf, followed by an evening of fine dining and entertainment – including live comedy, a prize-giving ceremony and a charity auction.
Commenting on the positive impact of the firm’s partnership with St Clare, Roy Croft said:
“The golf day was a fantastic way to meet and network with other local firms in our industry. Holding an event like a St Clare golf day really does work for everybody. We raise funds for a very deserving charity and, at the same time, build worthwhile relationships with other local firms.”
“This year’s event was our best golf day yet – and we aim to keep making every year bigger and better. We partnered with another local firm, Apex Grange, and each raised £7,500 for the charity of our choice. We have booked the date for 2018 – Friday 22nd June – and will be supporting St Clare once again.”
“You just never know when it might be your family, or yourself, who needs care from St Clare and so I want to do all I can to support them.”
St Clare Corporate Partnerships Manager, Amy Jacobs, added:
“We are extremely grateful to Stortford Tiling for their ongoing and generous support of St Clare. It is only with the support of loyal friends like Stortford Tiling that we are able to sustain and grow our services to ensure we continue to be there for local people now and in the years to come.”
