St Clare Hospice is looking for extra hands to help run one of its quirkiest shops.
The charity is in need of more people to volunteer at its Scarlet Vintage & Retro shop in Harlow town centre, which is home to a hand-picked selection of clothing and accessories from the 1990s and earlier as well as other retro-style wearables, collectables and homeware.
The shop in Broad Walk is a treasure trove of original one-offs, unique statement pieces, authentic vintage brands and unusual fashion finds waiting to be discovered and given a new lease of life. You never know what you might find!
No previous experience is required, but it is the ideal place to volunteer for those with an interest in all things vintage, or anyone who loves working with the public or who is looking to gain retail or merchandising experience.
Scarlet Vintage and Retro shop manager Tracey Chippett said: “Our Scarlet Vintage and Retro shop is one of Harlow’s little gems and is always stocked with unique fashion and timeless treasures, from one of a kind dresses and costume jewellery to stylish tailoring and vintage bridalwear as well as quirky homeware and collectables that stand out.
“As a volunteer, you can expect to join a fun and vibrant team with a passion for making Scarlet Vintage and Retro a unique shopping experience for our customers, and something truly special.
“We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, so whether you’re a fashion lover, a treasure hunter or simply want to make a difference by giving back to a good cause supporting people in your town, then we’d love to hear from you.”
Mary Billington is a former Scarlet Vintage and Retro volunteer who is now the manager at St Clare’s shop in Epping. She said volunteering was for her a great opportunity to gain new skills, make friends and have a change of direction.
“What I liked best about volunteering was the variety and meeting people,” she said. “Once, we had one lady come into the shop who needed a 1970s outfit. I remember running through a couple of options and gave her some outfits from the rail – and she left buying a whole outfit!
“I also loved keeping the shop looking great too. If we love our shop, then customers are going to love our shop too.”
