At top day of golf awaited players at the annual St Clare Hospice Charity Golf Day on Thursday 16th May.

Twenty-five teams of four teed off for 18 holes around the picturesque course at Saffron Walden Golf Club – helping to raise £13,515 over the course of the day.

Following the sporting action out on the green, players retired to the clubhouse for a two-course dinner followed by a raffle and auction.

The 19 auction prizes this year included a three-night stay at a five star resort in Portugal, two tickets to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, weekend tickets for the Sign of the Times festival, signed Chelsea and Arsenal football shirts, a luxury afternoon tea for two at Down Hall Hotel and Spa and much more.

The evening culminated in a prize giving, which saw trophies handed out to the winning teams and the winner’s of the nearest-the-pin and longest drive competitions.

The 2024 victors were the Norfolk & Chance team made up of Tim Slade, Dave Rose, Mark Russell and Dean Ince. Second place went to Ben Johnson, James Reyland, Charlie Zazzara and Sonny Motalto from Harlow’s Reyland Johnson Estate Agents and third place was the NFU Mutual team made up of Alex Forbes, Daniel Kitteridge, Roger Wilmott and Rod Taylor.

The golf day was supported by the Rotary Club of Epping, which has been involved with the annual charity event for almost two decades, helping to raise more than £212,000 over the years.

The event sponsors were Bellway, Daniel Robinson & Sons family funeral directors, Foskett, Marr Gadsby & Head Solicitors, HCN Law, Montagues Estate Agents, Relabond Building Services, Reyland Johnson Estate Agents, Senator Pens and Stevenette.

St Clare’s relationship fundraising manager Ellie Gale said: “The St Clare charity golf day is one of our favourite fundraisers of the year and we hope all the players who joined us on the fairway for this fantastic event had a thoroughly enjoyable day of golf.

“It’s amazing what can be achieved when you club together, and we are thrilled to have raised so much to support the work of St Clare. Every pound raised will help the Hospice continue providing its free, specialist care and support to those who need it, so that no-one who has been diagnosed with a condition that can’t be cured has to face it alone.

“Lastly, I’d like to thank everyone at the Rotary Club of Epping for their continued support of our golf day over so many years, the team at Saffron Walden Golf Club for hosting us once again, and all of our sponsors for contributing to the day’s success. We couldn’t do it without you.”
