The youth of today are making a difference in their local communities!
A number of students enrolled on the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, for 15-17 year olds, have raised a healthy sum of money for St Clare Hospice, as part of the scheme.
Three participating groups of young people raised a combined total of £1,455.31 for St Clare, through a variety of fundraising efforts such as bag packing in local supermarkets, car washing and a sponsored swim.
The NCS teams graduated from the project on Saturday 2 September 2017 at Harlow College where they received their awards, completing the final phase of the programme, and presented their fundraising cheque to St Clare.
Our Community Fundraising Administrator, Rachel Lines, who assisted in coordinating the groups’ fundraising efforts, commented:
“It’s an honour that three individual groups of young people enrolled on the NCS programme wanted to raise money for us here at St Clare Hospice. Their hard work has amounted to almost £1.5k in vital funding, which is enough to pay for nearly two weeks of physiotherapy for our patients, either at the hospice or in their own homes.”
“It is inspiring to see young people taking action in their communities, to help to make a difference to real, local people, and improve the lives of those who are in need of support. It is the generosity and commitment of our local supporters that enables St Clare to continue our life-changing work for hundreds of people. We want to say a huge thank you to these wonderful students, and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours!”
NCS is voluntary-based UK Government personal and social development programme for young people. Lasting a total of 4 weeks, the first week consists of Phase 1: ‘Adventure’, where students are encouraged to challenge themselves in a range of physical activities. This is followed by Phase 2: ‘Discovery’, which takes place in a university-style environment. The final stages before their NCS Graduation are Phases 3 and 4: Social Action, where students organise and manage their own social action project to make an impact on their local community.
