We are hoping our latest community fundraising initiative will be a sweet success thanks to the support of The English Cream Tea Company.

Our Jam Jar Army has been backed by the company’s founder and self-styled ‘chief scone gnome’ Jane Malyon, who has already been spreading the word about our campaign.

St Clare community fundraiser James Barber said: “Just like jam and scones, we think this is the perfect partnership and we are incredibly grateful for Jane’s enthusiasm and support. It’s also a great example of how a local business can support the work of their Hospice by helping us raise the vital income we need to generate each and every year to continue providing our specialist care to local people with a life-limiting illness and their families.”

Jane founded The English Cream Tea Company, based in White Roding, in 2011, delivering afternoon tea hampers and other postable treats direct to your door.

She said: “There are two aspects that immediately drew our hearts to St Clare’s Jam Jar Army. Firstly, we had a close relative who spent some time in the Hospice’s care and it was very special indeed. Secondly, we’ve launched our own range of delicious preserves (in jam jars, of course) so there’s an obvious connection there.

“And although we send our products all over the UK, The English Cream Tea Company is based just a few miles from the Hospice and it’s a delight to be involved with a local charity which offers such an important service. When approached I had no hesitation in saying ‘Yes, I’m in!’ and I now feel I’m a sort of honorary head of the Jam Jar Army, and that makes me smile.”

Our Jam Jar Army is our simplest fundraising initiative yet, and is ideal for schools, youth groups, businesses or your kitchen windowsill at home. All you need is an empty jam jar or container to fill with your loose change.
