Whether you made the final cut, or have the better-luck-next-time-blues – it’s a ‘yes’ from St Clare Hospice when it comes to running the London Marathon of 2018!

This week, thousands of people from all over Britain will learn if they have been selected from the ballot to run the Virgin Money London Marathon on 22 April 2018. Most applicants will not be accepted, with ballot entries open to only approximately 17,000 people. However, Gold, Silver and Bronze charity Bond places are still up for grabs.

St Clare is offering 6 lucky people the opportunity to run with one of our Gold Bond places. Applications are now open for our coveted marathon spots, with those who are chosen pledging to raise a minimum of £2,000 in vital funding – enough to pay for a 3 day visit to the St Clare Inpatient Unit for a patient in need.

We’re also encouraging those who did secure a place through the Ballot, to sign up to join Team St Clare. If you have secured your own place in the London Marathon, there is no minimum fundraising target – but every pound you raise will help St Clare continue to provide their free care to the whole of West Essex and East Herts.

St Clare Challenges and Events Fundraiser, Emma Broadbent, said:

“Congratulations to everyone who got in through the ballot for the London Marathon 2018! If you didn’t get a place, your luck’s not out yet because you can still apply for a Gold Bond place on Team St Clare!”

Emma continued:

“More importantly, if you were one of the lucky 17,000 to secure a ballot place, St Clare needs you! St Clare is encouraging all of those who were accepted on the ballot to run for their local hospice, too, to help raise awareness of hospice care and generate much-needed funds. Joining Team St Clare ensures that local people’s fundraising efforts come to a local cause, offering vital care services within the local community. Team St Clare runners are treated to bespoke support throughout their training, including an invitation to our helpful marathon evenings. Meet some of our past runners and get tips on training, as well as advice on how to avoid injury from experienced runners and qualified sports therapists!”
