We hold our Cutest Canine competition every year as part of our Winter Walkies 5k fundraising event. This year, the canine champ that wins the crown is seven year old Milo, a black Labrador from Saffron Walden.
Milo was voted top dog out of a field of 14 lovely entrants, winning the social media competition with 126 out of the 492 votes cast.
Dani De’ath, St Clare Hospice Challenges and Events Fundraiser, said, “Milo not only gets the glory of coming first, he’ll also get to lead the pack out at our Winter Walkies event on Sunday 27th February. Not only that, he’ll be given a fantastic doggy hamper with all the treats a pampered pooch could want. Winter Walkies is a favourite fundraiser in the St Clare event calendar. Hundreds of dogs and their humans meet at the Hospice in Hastingwood and enjoy a countryside walk. This year we will also have stalls selling doggy inspired goods and services, so why not sign up with friends and family to raise much needed funds for your local hospice.”
Milo’s owner, Alison Saunders, said, “St Clare Hospice were there for us when we needed them. The Hospice at Home team cared for my Dad, Alan, in August 2020.
The Hospice then helped my Mum, Marjorie, with the Listening Ear bereavement support. Sadly, Mum then needed the care of St Clare herself and was admitted to their inpatient unit where she passed away in October last year. Mum and Dad had been married just shy of 64 years. It’s been a very tough time but Mum loved having Milo visit her at the hospice inpatient unit. He was ‘her boy’.
“I’m looking forward to fundraising for St Clare by taking part in Winter Walkies and delighted that Milo won Cutest Canine! He is a calm, friendly, intuitive and loving boy, who loves his ball, long walks and food! He is happy lazing by the fire, as well as getting muddy and wet! We will be asking our many family and friends to help us raise money for St Clare by sponsoring us.”
