Courageous team take on skydive for St Clare!
A courageous team of 19 local charity supporters successfully braved a skydiving challenge throughout the month of November in aid of St Clare.
This season’s St Clare skydiving event saw a record number of participants take on the exhilarating dive at Sibson Aerodrome in Wansford Peterborough. After weeks of prior fundraising and gathering sponsorship for their local hospice, the team of 19 St Clare supporters raised almost £10,000 in vital funding. That’s enough to fund our entire Patient & Family Support service, who offer social, emotional, practical and spiritual support to patients and relatives, for almost two weeks.
Skydiving on #TeamStClare this November were:
- Amber Richardson
- Linzi Shelford
- Lois Martinelli
- Deborah Newberry
- Sue Richardson
- Carl Richardson
- Peter Bruisten
- Peter Lewis
- Olivia Pye
- Kirsty Bridger
- Donna Bridger
- Jamie Fowler
- Emma Broadbent
- Dani De’ath
- Rachel Lines
- Ellen South
- Samantha McCarthy
- Miles McCarthy
- Simon Plumb
The challenge saw participants attend a short pre-jump briefing, before taking the exhilarating leap of faith with their instructor from an aircraft at 13,000ft (approx. 2 miles). Free-falling at about 120mph, tandem skydivers will descended to 5,000ft in around 40 seconds, before opening the parachute and flying safely back down to earth.
Challenges and Events Fundraiser at St Clare, Emma Broadbent, said: “We are so honoured to have had 19 people sign up for our charity skydive this Autumn! The bravery and dedication of our supporters never fails to humble us, and we are so proud of them for their incredible fundraising efforts in aid of our hospice. It is events like this, that bring local people together, that make what we do such an honour and privilege; knowing we’re also raising vital funding for St Clare so that we can reach as many people who need us throughout West Essex and East Herts as possible. Thank you to everyone who took part and to all who sponsored their relatives – you are all amazing!”
