We are grateful that the government has recognised the pressing need for greater investment in the hospice sector, and we welcome the allocation of this latest round of capital funding. St Clare Hospice is expected to receive £434,835, which will enable us to make essential repairs and improvements to our buildings and infrastructure, ensuring we can continue to provide high quality care in a safe, accessible and modern environment for the people who need us.
However, while this funding is significant, it is important to note that it is restricted to capital projects and cannot be used to support the day-to-day running of our services. The majority of our core costs remain in staffing – the dedicated professionals who deliver the compassionate, expert care that is at the heart of everything we do.
As a charity, St Clare Hospice continues to rely heavily on the generosity of our local community to fund the essential care we provide. In these challenging economic times, we know that many people are feeling the strain and we are especially grateful to those who still choose to support us. Every donation, large or small, makes a real difference – and we simply couldn’t do what we do without that support.
We join others across the hospice sector to continue to call for a more sustainable and equitable funding model for hospice care – one that fully recognises the cost of delivering our vital services and enables us to meet the growing and complex needs of the community we serve.
