As the winter month draw in and the festive season approaches, St Clare Hospice is encouraging anyone who is struggling with grief to reach out to GriefLine – it’s free, confidential telephone helpline for anyone coping with the loss of a loved one.

While winter can bring comfort and connection for some, for others it can be an especially difficult time of year, stirring memories and intensifying feelings of loss. GriefLine (01279 945089) offers emotional support and a compassionate listening ear to anyone who is grieving – no matter how long ago their bereavement occurred, or the circumstances surrounding their loss.

A woman with grey curly hair and a striped shirt sits at a desk, holding a phone to her right ear as she takes a call with a thoughtful expression on her face. You don’t have to have a previous connection to St Clare Hospice to reach out to GriefLine, the service is open to everyone. Whether you lost someone recently or many years ago, GriefLine provides a safe space to talk, share feelings and receive guidance from trained volunteers who understand the pain of bereavement.

Denise Taylor, St Clare Hospice’s project manager for bereavement support services, said: “Grief doesn’t follow a calendar, and for many people, winter can be an especially painful time. The shorter days, longer nights and social pressures of the festive season can make feelings of less feel even more overwhelming.

“GriefLine is here to remind people that they don’t have to face those feelings alone. A simple conversation can make a huge difference.”

GriefLine is open 9am to 4pm every weekday. Callers can speak to someone who will listen without judgement, as well as share information and advice on further bereavement support available locally and nationally.
